The kingdom of heaven is like unto a prince
Who was about to be married to the woman he loved
But his enemy seeing opportunity sought to make war
Before he left to do battle and war
He vowed to his beloved his betrothed amore.
“If you will wait for me and be true
I shall return for you and marry you and make you mine.”
The Prince left her his royal garment as proof of his oath.
It was a beautiful garment of great price
Fine and glorious in every way,
Which she kept out in sight to remind her every day
Of her beloved’s oath and undying love so true.
The days turned into months and months turned into years.
The war went on and the young woman’s heart grew faint.
Her sisters where all married from the youngest to the oldest
And people began talking and his oath they fought.
Maybe he’s dead or that he just forgot.
He should not make you wait this long move on and find another.
At first she fought their words, her love for him was great
But time and life was against her and her love couldn’t wait.
For a while the garment reminded her of the promise made in love
But as time went on she put it away ashamed and dismayed
And soon she gave in to the pressures and cares of this world.
Now searching for a husband and founding one
he said with a smile of deceit
“What of your beloved who’s garment you put away?”
She answered him from the bitterness of her heart
“He has delayed his coming and my heart grows faint.
My sisters are all married and I’m left an old maid.
Quick let us be married before my time is past away.
We’ll sell off this garment and let it be known
That we shall be married before the sun goes down this day.
As the ceremony ended a trumpet did sound
The prince is returning his victory so great
The spoils of his triumph are grand and abound
He’s come for his bride his beloved wife with whom be bound
His messenger is sent out for his betrothed to beckon
But what’s this?
She’s sleeping?
And who’s that by her side?
Has she forgotten me?
Am I altogether forsaken?
Was I not her first love?
Was her love not true?
Here I have returned for her and she is with another
My love my beloved why has your heart grown faint?
Have you the garment I left?
It was a comfort was it not?
If you had kept it out and not put it away
It was a token of my love for you
But time and life took your love so true
Cares and worries of this world wore your patience thin
But where is the garment that would have kept you from sin?
Have you sold it for the things of this world?
See how I have fought and made all things mine?
What had you to worry? You too would’ve been mine.
And all that I have would’ve been yours
You put away your garment and me out of your mind
I was your first love remember that time?
My eyes saw you and your eyes met mine
My heart moved with compassion
I longed to make you mine
I drew you with kindness, tenderness and love
You rejoiced when I whispered softly in your ear
Reveling my plan and destiny for you dear
My love is the same it will never change
Come back to me awake, arise, put off your shame
Again I whisper softly in your ear
I still love you, now if you’ll make an exchange
Confess your love for me a new oath retain
And I will restore the garment you forsook and sold
I will clothe you with honor and beauty
And with ornaments who’s price can not be told
Remember your first love and the things we did
The splendor of those days can be had again
Forsake your life as I have my own
And shame of your sin will not be shown
The days turned to months and months into eternity
The prince now a king and the woman a queen
She’s clothed in her glorious bright shining gown
His to be, for eternity, to another no longer bound
